The Bridge
In February 2007, Candy Hemphill Christmas invited the Galloways to a church service that would forever change their lives. Many of you probably know Candy Hemphill Christmas who performed with her family the Hemphills and has been on many of the Gaither Homecoming concerts/videos as a solo artist. Two years ago, Candy founded "The Bridge Ministry". The ministry is literally located under the Jefferson Street Bridge downtown Nashville, TN.
Every Tuesday night at 6pm, "The Bridge Ministry” feeds, hands out clothing and has a church service under the bridge for the homeless people living in Nashville. There are over 11,000 homeless people in Nashville, 4,000 of those are children. During the summer services attendance averages about 350 homeless people. The experience is like no other. When service begins, the homeless receive a hot meal, while they are eating there is a praise a worship team singing, then there will be a message given and an altar call, after the alter call is given, food bags are given as well as closing then there is a drawing for a bicycle, sleeping bag, or backpack.
The Bridge Ministries was featured on Paul Heil's Gospel Greats on July 14th and 15th, 2007. To hear the show you can visit www.thegospelgreats.com/current.htm Scroll down the page until you see The Bridge being mentioned.
